Jazz Fest Jump 'n Jive

Kudos to the Jazz Festival folks for putting on another amazing show- #49 to be exact. Being a blues fan, the high lights for me were Keb' Mo' and Bonnie Raitt's fantastic performances in the arena. I also enjoyed Duke Robillard and Hubert Sumlin on the Garden stage (although I wish they hadn't been at the same time as Bonnie). I've heard these artists many times in the past so the big surprise for me was the McCollough Sons of Thunder -Harlem's gospel brass band that had everyone dancing ,rocking and clapping with unabashed joy! What a treat. Can't imagine how they'll top it for next year- the BIG 50, but you know they will!
Cheers!
Robin

Dear Local Musician
Allow me to introduce myself, Lavon Pettis of Sol Cyrans Innernational. As a local promoter and socialite I spend a majority of time researching culture: artists, shows, venues, food, edutainment, and use of language in the media. My passion for music has made me an avid fan of Kelan Phil Cohran www.philcohran.com
As most of know..the culture which is sold and manufactured today is losing it's appeal cuz the people CRAVE..something DIFFERENT...
I am writing you all to share some NFO on something so refreshingly & delightfully NU 4 the SOL in the City of the Go (as they say in South Shore)...

You may have heard about Kelan Phil Cohran, a local musicologist who's roots in music runs deeper than the escape routes Al Capone built round Town..

As I researcher I understand how consumed one can become with work and never have time to nourish your mind with a sense of deeper meaning in life...4 all you NERDS who don't know who he is or is damned 2 know who he is.....additional NFO on Kelan Phil Cohran is provided at the following websites: www.philcohran.com, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Cohran, http://www.chicagoreader.com/hitsville/030725.html, you can listen to the music at SASSAS http://www.soundnet.org/sound/2005/july-2sb.shtml or purchase CDS from Dusty Groves..http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=y64zyykh4z. or wait on some archival researchers like myself or them CATS from Ubiquity Records, Numero Group or some other fan who starts an obscure record company in Europe or Asia & lands in Chicago JUS to put out box sets of Cohran's collections...

LOL..I'm laughing cause I don't eva try to be edutaining..its just a natural progression...as local poet Mama Dean says!!

All I'm saying is due ya research & come to the show.and see Bro Phil live!!!! .Before the Secret is told on Oprah bout his family band (legacy) and the healing powers of his music. This is Bro Phil's first time (in a long while) playing with otha Masters..since Jay McShann, Sun Ra, The Artistic Heritage Ensemble, Pete Cosey, Lou Satterfield, Boa Boa Brown, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble http://www.hypnoticbrass.blogspot.com/
