Blog Debut!
Greetings from The Hideaway Lounge!
My main reason for hosting a blues show is my love of the music- the lyrics and stories they hold, the melodies and beautiful instrumentals, the incredibly rich history of a truly American art form.
I would like to give a BIG thanks to the folks who run the Monterey Bay Blues Festival! A wonderful 3 days of blues in all forms, great food, and, for an avid "people watcher"- some wild and creative sightings. Of the shows I was able to check out-Terry Hanck was my top pick.
I would like to share a few of my favorite new releases with you-
"Doug James and Sax Gordon"...... a must! fine, funky grooving sax
Angela Strehli's "Blue Highway".......a beautiful stretch of cool tunes with great guests
James Hunter's "people gonna talk"....check it out (especially if you love Sam Cooke)
The Mighty Mike Schermer Band's "Next Set"....I LOVE this one
Susan Tedeschi's "Hope and Desire"....one of her best
Next blog I'll give a list of my "all time favorites", (of course too many to name), but an attempt to share the "musts" for one's collection.
My condolences to the family and friends of the Great Sam Myers who passed away on July 17th from cancer. I was fortunate to catch Sam many times with Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets, always a fabulous show.
Don't forget to tune in on Thursday afternoons from 1:00- 3:00 P.M. for blues from the 1920's to the present.
Cheers!
Robin Winfield
